Malbec is EONIQ Atelier's 1st custom watch. Our designers are happy to help you with your own designs. But before that, you can take a look at the different options available for Malbec's customization
1. Flame blue (or flame purple?) steel watch hands and screws
At EONIQ Atelier, we blue our watch hands and movement screws by hand. While traditional bluing targets the well recognized steel blue, we can achieve the following colors as well:
We have many requests for purple watch hands as it is definitely a more unique color and a great conversation starter.
High quality custom pad printing. Each of these custom elements you see on the dial, whether it is a logo replacing our "automatic" text, or tiny texts surrounding the outside of the minute track, are done by careful printing plates design and careful optimization of the printing process. Different designs will require different print plate depths, ink viscousity, dwell time... and more. Even the temperature and humidity in the room will affect the final print.
You'll notice that there's no "pixels" or "steps" on these fine prints as this is done by manual pad printing; this is not achievable by digital printing.
Available colors: Red, Blue, Green and gold carefully curated / tuned to match this dial
By adding colors to one or a few of the numerals, we can add a personalized highlight to this watch.
Some prefers a highlighted 12, others prefer 6. We've had requests of highlighted even numerals, and also numbers special to the owner.
As our numerals are done with a multi-printing plate process, changing the color is far from just switching the ink. Printing these 3D raised numerals requires 3-5 plates for each design. Changing our Breguet 12 into a red color, means we need to make 5 plates for all the numerals except 12, and then another 5 plates for the 12.
That's a lot of effort to change the color, you may think; but if you take a loupe to enjoy this dial, you'll understand why we think is worth it.
The font of the numerals determines the character and the story of the watch.
The beauty of a sector dial, combined with our capability of a 3D - wet ink effect printing, allows us to create a refined dress watch when matched with different type of fonts. A notable request we got was Chinese Character numerals.
Depending on fonts that you like, we can consider:
If you want to consider a more subtle way to add your own message or story, we believe adding your personalization directly on the bridges or the main plate of the movement could work beautifully.
The exhibition caseback showcases the Japanese MIYOTA craftsmanship; and adding a customization onto the movement, the ticking heart of the timepiece, makes the personalization timeless in our opinion. This is because mass produced movements are often replaced instead of serviced; but in this case, your complete watch will be unique and special.
Depending on the required customization, we will provide a quotation. For a very rough idea, here's the customization options with the approximate complete custom watch pricing (including design fee):
The above are our common requests and the resulting quotation. Let's say if you want to combine item 3 and 5 above, your watch would total around 900USD.
We are happy to help you explore options; if you have any questions on the pricing please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
This will largely depend on the design process. Usually we expect around 1 week's time for the design communications, and around 1-2 week's time for the crafting of the custom timepiece.
Yes, we can help you custom design a minute track. Keep in mind the sector dial ratio, and watch hands length are set. The brushed area on the dial won't be editable.
The movement of the watch is a MIYOTA 9039, made in Japan.
We customize and regulate it in our Hong Kong workshop.
The dial is printed in our Hong Kong workshop as well.
The watch hands are flame blued by our watchmakers in Hong Kong.
Other components come from Europe and China.
Sorry we don't copy designs. We don't mind being inspired and design a dial with similar ratios, but we won't directly copy. Additionally, this dial do not feature metal applied indices, and the sector (brushed vs sand blasted) areas are fundamentally different.
We do not copy fonts from any existing designs. But we do have designers capable of creating fonts that may resemble traditional design styles. Please keep in mind that some fonts, such as the IWC portuguieser font looks best with metal applied indices; for Malbec sector dials, our numerals are Pad-printed. With that said, we are happy to help design a suitable font after we confirm the design order.
